Abstract: | This is a study of 130 cases of spinal cord compression which were met with during the 6 years, 1965-1970 inclusive, in the neurosurgical department of Cairo University Hospital. The cases included were those verified by operation or by biopsy. There were sixty-two cases (47-6%) of extradural compression, forty-eight cases (37*1%) of extramedulla r compression, and twenty cases (l5-3° 0 ) of intramedullary compression. Each of the meningiomas and neurofibromas caused 21 -5% of the cases. There were two cases of intramedullary bilharzial granulomas. The commonest site was the dorsal region where 60% of lesions were situated. |
